First Sight

Sunday, March 19

Lately mornings are for parusing WVRMLS for new Salem listings. This morning there were three listings we wanted to look at it, but two of them already had offers. The third one was the Englewood Charm.

We arrived to the Open House the same day and were know as the “Portland Couple” by the sellers realtor. There were other potential buyers looking at the house. By then we’ve looked at about a dozen other houses and followed along with an inspection on one of them, so we had a good idea of what we were looking for.

It met our requirements:
Three bedrooms that aren’t cramped
Two toilets and a bath tub John can fit in
Plumped for gas (for future gas range)
Kitchen with adequate space
Room for our 10’ table, chairs, and hutch
Street parking for visitors
Space for an art studio
7’ plus ceiling height (happens after looking at a house with 6’ ceilings)
No wall heaters
Crawl space with room to maneuver
Yard, preferably fenced for future dogs and kids

We asked the realtor the crawl space entrance location, she didn’t know. So we went outside, found the crawl space entrance and noticed the vinyl siding starting to peeling off the house. That was a concern for us. The realtor denied even knowing about the siding.

We loved the layout, the rooms were spacious, and the backyard was great. The sellers and realtor told us that they will review all offers on Tuesday by 10 am. We had our timeline.
